Why Sherman needs so much lifting work

Sherman has become one of the busiest construction markets north of Dallas. Texas Instruments started production at its first 300mm wafer fab in Sherman in December 2025, with room for up to four fabs on the site, and GlobalWafers opened its $3.5 billion Sherman wafer plant in May 2025. Suppliers, warehouses, housing and retail along US-75 and US-82 have followed.

That means steady demand for operated crane service: setting rooftop units, erecting steel for new shops and warehouses, placing equipment for plant suppliers and contractors, and lifting trusses for new homes. Most of these jobs need a crane for a few hours or a few days, not a crane on site for months.

Picking the right crane

Boom trucks (roughly 17 to 40 ton) handle most light commercial and residential work: HVAC units, trusses, signs, generators and material placement. They set up quickly and travel without escorts. More on boom truck rental.

Hydraulic truck and all-terrain cranes (40 ton and up) cover heavier picks, longer reach, precast, plant equipment and steel. More on operated crane service.

Size depends on weight and distance. A 3,000 lb unit set 80 feet from where the crane can park can need a much bigger crane than a 10,000 lb load lifted close in. Wondering about price? Read the crane rental cost guide.

Crane rental FAQ

How much does crane rental cost in Sherman, TX?

Most operated crane jobs are billed hourly with a minimum (often 3 to 4 hours) plus travel time. One published 2025 North Texas rate sheet lists $155/hour for a 23-ton boom truck up to $595/hour for a 275-ton crane, plus a fuel surcharge and permits. See our crane rental cost guide for a full breakdown.

What is the difference between operated crane service and a bare rental?

Operated (or "wet") crane service includes the crane and a certified operator, and the crane company runs the lift. A bare rental is the machine only: you supply a qualified, certified operator and take on more responsibility. Most short jobs in Grayson County are operated rentals.

Do I need a permit for a crane?

Sometimes. Setting up in a street, alley or sidewalk usually needs city approval. Moving large cranes on Texas highways can require oversize/overweight permits from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, which crane companies usually handle. Work near power lines has its own OSHA clearance rules. See our Sherman crane permit guide.

How far ahead should I book a crane?

A few days to two weeks is common for routine lifts. Larger cranes can be booked out further during busy periods. Same-week work is sometimes possible for boom trucks, so include your dates in the request.

What information do I need for a crane quote?

The heaviest item and its weight, how high and how far it needs to go (the radius from where the crane can set up), the job address, ground conditions and access, and your dates. Photos help.

How do I find crane service near me in Grayson County?

Send one request on this page with your job address. We pass it to independent crane companies that cover your part of Grayson County or Texoma, and they contact you directly with a quote.

Who actually does the lift?

An independent crane company. We are a request and referral service. We do not own cranes, and the company that quotes you is responsible for its equipment, crew, certifications and insurance. Always confirm insurance and operator certification before work starts.
